Chinese Auto Exports to Russia Drop Sharply
Following a brief surge in demand, Russia’s demand for imported Chinese cars is declining due to Moscow’s tightening trade policies and rising geopolitical risks.
According to data compiled by Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, China only exported 99,000 vehicles to Russia in the first quarter of 2025, representing a 44% year-on-year decline. This marks a stark contrast to 2024, when Russia was China’s largest auto export market, with nearly 1.16 million vehicles sold—a 27% year-on-year increase.
